How to develop with Vend.

1. Register as a Vend Developer
  • Create a Vend Developer Account and familiarize yourself with Vend and our API.
  • Review our API documentation before you undertake any development projects. Email developer@vendhq,com to book some time with a Vend Developer Evangelist if needed.
  • Create a Vend trial account for testing. Email developer@vendhq.com with your Vend URL to have your trial extended.
2. Build and demo
  • Develop your add-on to a level where it is usable using oAuth
  • Send a video demo to Vend to demonstrate your add-on including what it does and does not do (provide Vend with test credentials)
  • Further develop your add-on based on Vend's feedback and start looking for Vend customers to work with (Vend will not provide customers)
3. Beta test
  • Stabilise your add-on so that it can be used by beta customers (minimum 2)
  • Organise some Vend customers and work with them. (Don't break anything!)
  • Improve your add-on. Fix bugs etc. Repeat.
4. Document
  • Create awesome sales and support documentation, including screenshots / screencasts.
  • Gather testimonials and customer feedback for your add-on to Vend, it should be production ready.
5. Get sign off
  • Submit your completed app to Vend’s add-ons team for final testing.
6. Create landing page
  • Build a landing page on your site (include the Vend-Approved logo)
  • Submit your add-on to Vend for final approval together with a short demo video (not a technical integration set up).
  • Display the certified add-on badge
  • Adhere to the Vend Developer Agreement, the Vend API terms of use, the Vend Developer Security Requirements, Vend Developer Minimum Privacy Standard, and co-marketing guidelines
7. Promotion
  • Work with the Product Partnership marketing team to develop a GTM plan and sales and support training (they will contact you).
  • Be listed on Vend’s add-ons marketplace
  • Demo your product to the Vend sales and support teams via recorded webinar.
  • Maintain no less than 5 customers on your product that are also actively using Vend

2. Build two custom developments for Vend users
  • Complete two custom development projects and submit them for review to our Developer Evangelist team. We will review your work and either approve it, or share suggestions for improvement.
3. Get sign off
  • Once your two custom developments are completed to our satisfaction we’ll update your developer status as an Approved Developer.
4. Create a landing page
  • Build a landing page on your site (include the Vend-approved logo).
  • Adhere to the Vend Developer Agreement, the Vend API terms of use, the Vend Developer Security Requirements, Vend Developer Minimum Privacy Standard and co-marketing guidelines.
5. Promotion
  • Work with the Product Partnership marketing team to develop a GTM plan and become acquainted with sales team (they will contact you).
  • Be listed on Vend’s Expert directory as an Approved Developer partner.

What sorts of custom developments are Vend customers asking for?

Vend has a very wide range of users, many with niche industry requirements and business-specific internal processes. Each retail vertical will have a particular scenario they want to explore or problem.

What makes a good add-on?

The best add-ons are the ones that address and solve retail painpoints. Like increasing customer engagement, improving processes, and saving them time. Some great add-ons for retail include customer loyalty and rewards, payments, marketing and CRM, analytics, multi-store management tools, warehousing, and much more.

Will Vend promote my add-on?

Once your add-on is approved we’ll go through a specific process involving internal education and external promotion, including a listing on our add-ons directory, a feature on our blog, and a dedicated EDM to the relevant region or market segment. Further promotion and co-marketing will be reviewed by opportunity on a case by case basis.

Will Vend bring me customers?

We will share information about your add-on and capabilities and offer a redirect to your site, but filling your funnel with leads and converting them to paying customers is up to you!

How do I beta test my add-on?

It is up to you find your own beta testers. We will help where we can, but we are not responsible for finding testers or bringing your product to market.
