Vender of the Week: D & DEPARTMENT
Where: Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan
Why we love D & DEPARTMENT:
D & DEPARTMENT is a project dedicated to the creation and sharing of life-long designs. From traditional cooking and ceramic rice bowls, to furniture and clothing, they celebrate every beautiful aspect of a modern Japanese culture. As well as running a store and café, they also curate exhibitions of traditional handmade designs. Combining old and new into an awesome-sauce creative space, it would be impossible not to love D & DEPARTMENT.
How did Vend come into your life?
We looked for a POS system that fitted to our store. What we looked for was the one that runs on Mac; we were originally established as a graphic design studio and own only Macs. There were no such services in Japan so we considered a few other POS companies, but finally chose Vend. We were not sure if these systems would work all right in a Japanese environment so Vend’s monthly charge system was ideal for us to be able to try.
What would your words of wisdom be to a new retailer?
Having a cloud POS system makes it easier for you to analyse your sales and control your stock. It requires a lot of work at the beginning but it’s worth it.
Do you have any advice to new Vend users?
Don’t be afraid. Vend runs totally fine in Japan.
