Vend is growing – like crazy. This time last year we had 20 staff in our Auckland office, and now we have 80 team members in Auckland, Melbourne, Toronto and San Francisco.
With so many new Venders, we needed a brand new space to live in (it’s hard to take over the world when you’re packed like sardines). We chose Newmarket, in Auckland because it’s in the heart of the city’s retail district. We’re surrounded by awesome store owners and business people looking to take their products and do awesome things – just like us.
We also have amazing Vend retailers within walking distance, such as Superette, Whoopie Pies, Sitka and Qubic. It’s great to be able to see our retailers in person, to inspire us and to keep us grounded.
At the official opening ceremony today, we were joined by Minister Steven Joyce – a proud supporter of New Zealand’s technology and business community. Steven told us about his own journey in the world of business, something he got into straight out of uni back in the wild days of the 90’s. Technology is becoming more and more vital to New Zealand’s economy, and is a reason why the government is supporting tech companies growing their businesses here and overseas. Turns out the Minister is also a very quick learner, and picked up the Vend system without a hitch. So you know, if this politics thing doesn’t work out he’ll always find a job at the Vend Cafe.
Thanks to everyone (Vend staff, retailers, families, supporters, friends, frenemies, social media stalkers, and just lovely humans) for being with us on the first part of our awesome journey, and we hope you join us for the rest of the ride!
