Xerocon 2014: Roundup

What happens at Xerocon does not stay at Xerocon.


Unlike a typical groupie that remains loyal to the band, we’re the type that like to spread the word on how great this year’s Xerocon was, so here are some of our top highlights from this year’s event.

A bigger venue means bigger numbers and Xerocon attracted 1,300 (international) rockstar delegates plus 82 exhibitors. Formalities aside, there’s always a few quirky touches to each event. It was no surprise then to see Rod artfully navigating his way around the 28,000m2 Dome on a skateboard with a friendly wave from the GoPro camera in his hand.

By Day 2 delegates were right in festival mode sporting Xero Tees and fake tattoos thanks to the new addition of the merch store this year (proudly powered by Vend).

The speaker line-up this year included a wide pool of talent who all dissected on topics that related to the themes of digital disruption and how making positive changes will enable you to be more productive and efficient.

Penny Elmslie, Xero’s Head of Marketing, had a great summary on best practices for bookkeepers and accountants, aptly referring to treating your website like your front door. Whereas Chris Riddell quoted during his session on the ‘Disruption of Digital’ that often we overlook driving authenticity and owning the conversation in social media communication.

During the Director of Capability and Innovation at Telstra Michael Ossipoff’s session titled ‘Business as (un) usual’ he challenged the audience to consider what customers value as opposed to what customers want and to consider the cloud as a mechanism to unlock one’s business, quoting the figure that 88% of Australian enterprises are already using some form of cloud computing.

True rockstars (aka the Xero band) took to the stage on Friday evening. Amongst the glamour of dresses, suits and mo’worthy Venders were the winners on the evening. A huge congratulations to all those who picked up a gong on the evening, especially our very own Vend Advisors:
