Getting Started with Vend in three easy steps.

In this video we’ll walk you through setting up a basic store. We will show you how to create a product and how to add variants as well as track your stock across your outlets.
The first thing we need to work out is how we treat tax. Woo-hoo! No, really, it’s important to get this done first so that we can then apply the correct tax to products and the rest of your set-up. So either add your tax type from your Getting Started wizard, or from the Sales Taxes setup page.
You’ll be asked if you’re tax inclusive or tax exclusive. If you’re in the USA or Canada you’re exclusive, as you add a tax to the product price you display to a customer. If you’re in the United Kingdom, Australia, South Africa or New Zealand then you’re inclusive, meaning that the price a customer sees includes tax.
With Vend you can also set differing tax rates for the different stores you own, or for different products.

In Vend an outlet is your store, and a register is the name we give the device you make the sales from. So if for example you have two iPads in your store making sales on Vend, each of those would be a register. Each trial account comes with one outlet and one free register.
You can easily purchase additional registers and outlets, and name them on the General Settings page under Outlets and Registers.
There are two ways of creating products in Vend. You can create a new product manually, like Strahan does in the video above, or import a CSV file which we would recommend for creating bulk products.
The CSV file can be created from scratch or by using an export from another POS. CSV import is really important.

Vend allows you to manage inventory with ease. Make orders, transfers, or do a stocktake, and leave a clear path to follow with every sale. Once you’re up and making sales you can also use Vend’s powerful reporting to see what sold where and when.
Vend’s inventory control allows three key functions:
Barcodes can make life for a retailer much easier. If a product has a barcode you can use that, or, Vend will generate barcodes from the SKU field if you don’t want to use the Universal Barcode. We recommend printing a bulk run of barcodes when first setting up Vend, this will make it quicker to set up pricebooks and complete stocktakes for retailers not using bluetooth barcode scanners.

This is what it’s all about. We’ll give you a quick overview of how to make a sale in Vend. Add products to the sale by scanning barcodes or using the search bar. Collect customer details and send email receipts. Then use advanced features like layaway or split payments.
Hurray! So now we are ready to make sales. If you go to your Register you can use the search bar to look up a product or you can scan a product’s barcode to enter a product into the register.
When you hit pay, you’ll see the payment types which you’ve specified in Setup, plus ‘On Account’ and ‘Layaway’ which are standard.

If you want to run a sale or special, it’s also possible to set up a pricebook which will automatically discount selected products and allows you to target that discount to either all customers or a select Customer Group.
It isn’t all one-way, there are a few ways that you can take items back and into inventory.
Refunding items and exchanging items:
Vend’s customer management capabilities allow you to track and report on your customers’ activities, including what they’ve spent in the year to date, and monies outstanding. It’s possible to add notes to customers and export details of customers for targeted promotions.

Now that you’ve made a few sales, we’ll show you how you can view reporting and manage your inventory so you can maximize your sales and minimize your costs.
Once you’ve started selling, you’ll want to track how your products are doing. With Vend reporting you can track sales, revenue, profit, margin and many other things to see how your business is doing. You can also add filters to get a more granular view of each individual product or customer.
If you just need a quick snapshot of your store’s performance, you can view the Retail Dashboard to gain insights with real-time information about your business provided to you instantly, even on your mobile device.
Compare daily, weekly and monthly stats on revenue, profit, discount values, average basket size, popular products and more - available with Pro and Enterprise plans.
If you notice that your stock is getting low on certain items, you can use the stock control feature in Vend to order some more. Just select your quantity and supplier or upload a stock order directly from a CSV. You can email an invoice directly from Vend to the supplier with all the relevant details. Once the supplier fills the order and sends it in you can click receive, print off our barcode labels and start selling!
